Pochettino keen to keep squad intact

January 21, 2015 09:29:16 UK

Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino insists he wants to keep his squad together and does not want anyone to leave the club this month.

Paulinho, Aaron Lennon, Kyle Naughton and Roberto Soldado have all been linked with White Hart Lane exits during the winter transfer window but Pochettino is not interested in selling any of them.

Naughton is being linked with Swansea City and Soldado could be heading to Bayer Leverkusen but Spurs have a busy schedule in the second half of the season as they are still in the Europa League, Capital One Cup and FA Cup well, as well as being involved in the race for a top-four spot in the Premier League.

When we watched their game against Southampton and against QPR, they deserved to go through to the next round.

Pochettino said of Soldado: “I am happy with him. I am the same as before. All players are in my plans and (there is not) any news.

“I expect all players to be here because we have ahead a lot of games. We are still in four competitions and I think that we need a strong squad to take on all games that we have in the future.”

Spurs face Sheffield United in the semi-finals of the Capital One Cup, and Pochettino said of Wednesday’s first-leg clash against the Blades: “We know that Sheffield is a very good team. In this type of competition, the Capital One Cup, it is not important the level, whether you play in Premier League or League One.

“When it is decided over one or two games, it is important to be focused and we need to show respect for Sheffield United. When we watched their game against Southampton and against QPR, they deserved to go through to the next round.

“They played very well – they were the more aggressive and physical team. I think we need to be focused on our game and play with intensity, high level and high tempo.”

Spurs are 6.50 to win the first leg 2-0 with Soldado available at 2.10 to score at any time against Nigel Clough’s League One side.
