Perez has a point to prove

January 10, 2014 13:05:57 UK

Sergio Perez has a point to prove to former team McLaren when he lines up for Force India in the upcoming new Formula One campaign.

Sergio Perez is motivated to do well against McLaren in 2014.

The 23-year-old Mexican only lasted one season alongside British 2009 world champion Jenson Button at the Woking-based outfit before being replaced with  Kevin Magnussen for 2014.

Perez is now highly motivated to help Force India jump ahead of McLaren this year after the two teams battled it out for fifth place in the constructors’ championship last term. McLaren won by 45 points with Pirelli’s decision to change their tyres proving the key to that outcome.

Perez feels confident after his year at McLaren and he is now determined to help Force India make some progress as he prepares to link up with Nico Hulkenberg who is back at the team after a year out at Sauber in 2013.

“That gives me very big motivation for the 2014 season,” he told Formula1.com.

I feel confident that together with Force India we can do a good job over the winter and start the season in good shape.

“I feel confident that together with Force India we can do a good job over the winter and start the season in good shape.

“The team did that last year and they have been focused on the 2014 car for a long time. These are all positives.”

Perez added: “I think I’m a better driver after the year with McLaren, and being strong in every area is – and always will be – my focus.”

Perez is 151.00 to win the drivers’ championship, while Red Bull’s reigning champion Sebastian Vettel is 1.83 and Mercedes’ British driver Lewis Hamilton is 5.00. Force India are 101.00 to win the constructors’ championship.
