Penguins and Rangers meet in Pittsburgh

The Penguins will look to see off the Rangers at home on Friday night.

The Pittsburgh Penguins look to continue their march to the Metropolitan Division crown when they welcome in the New York Rangers to the Consol Energy Center on Friday evening.

Losers at the Prudential Center in Newark to the New Jersey Devils earlier in the week, the Penguins still have a large 13-point lead over the Washington Capitals in the Division and also are three points up on the Boston Bruins in the race for the top seed in the Eastern Conference. New York sits just outside the playoff places, trailing the Philadelphia Flyers by a couple of points.

The Capitals were in action on Thursday evening at the Verizon Center in Washington, but could only pick up a regulation point as the Carolina Hurricanes prevailed 4-3 in overtime. Jeff Skinner completed his hat trick in the extra frame for the visitors to seal the victory while Alex Ovechkin hit his league-leading 31st of the campaign in defeat.

One of only five sides in the Eastern Conference with a positive goal-difference the Capitals are, if anything, under performing on the season as Washington, Pittsburgh, Boston, the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Montreal Canadiens appear to be the class of the field.

Over in New Jersey the Devils will look to build on their success against the Penguins when the Chicago Blackhawks come into town. It’s then up to Buffalo to play the Sabres on Saturday before returning back to Newark for a three-game home stand.

The Penguins are 6.50 to win the Stanley Cup, while the Blackhawks can be backed at 7.00.
