Pellegrini assured of Toure commitment

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini says he has no concerns over Yaya Toure’s commitment to the club, despite the midfielder questioning his future beyond this season.

The Ivory Coast international was heavily linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium last summer after hitting out at the Premier League champions for a perceived lack of respect.

While City and Toure were able to smooth over any issues before the start of the season, the former Barcelona man has once again raised doubts over whether he wants to stay put.

Ahead of the start of the Africa Cup of Nations, Toure said he did not know whether he would still be in Manchester for the 2015/16 campaign, with Paris Saint-Germain said to be a club he would like to join.

However, Pellegrini is not worried about Toure’s plans for the future and is confident he will stay with City, who are 3.25 to retain the Premier League title.

“I think Yaya is 100 per cent committed with our team and with this team,” said the Chilean. “I don’t have any doubts about that.

“I don’t think any of us know what will happen in six months more. We don’t know where you can be, we cannot know what will happen in the future.

“But it’s not a problem with his commitment, you can’t link one thing with the other. I repeat, Yaya is very happy here. His commitment with our club is not a problem.”

City have struggled without Toure recently, failing to win a Premier League game the former Barcelona man has missed this season.

With the 31-year-old absent for potential the next four weeks, City’s title ambitions could be derailed if they do not learn to cope without him.

Pellegrini is confident they can maintain their fight for the Premier League crown though, starting with Sunday’s game with Arsenal.

Pellegrini said: “Of course we are going to miss Yaya because he is a very important player – in the same way that we miss Sergio Aguero, Edin Dzeko, David Silva, or all the players that for different reasons cannot play every week.

“But we have a squad and we have to replace Yaya.”

City are 1.80 to beat Arsenal on Sunday, with the Gunners 4.50 to avenge their 6-3 defeat at the Etihad last season. The draw is 4.00.
