Pearce plans to build on fine win

Nottingham Forest manager Stuart Pearce hopes his side’s fine 2-1 win at Derby County can act as a catalyst for his team.

Ben Osborn scored a stoppage-time winner to lift the pressure on Pearce, whose side are now 26.00 to be promoted this season, while the Rams are 1.72 to go up.

The Forest boss said after the victory: “For the team to deliver a performance like that, it puts a marker down for the rest of the season.

It puts a marker down for the rest of the season.

“It’s a nice result but it has to be a result that acts as a catalyst and sees us have a good run between now and the summer hopefully, because we have the nucleus of a decent squad here.

“It’s important that we now move forward from here and follow it up with another good result in the next game.”

Derby had taken the lead thanks to a Henri Lansbury own goal but Pearce’s side hit back when Britt Assombalonga equalised after a scramble.

And Forest, who had only won two of their last 20 matches and were beaten by League One outfit Rochdale in the third round of the FA Cup a fortnight ago, went on to secure three crucial points thanks to Osborn’s spectacular last-gasp effort.
