Pacquiao renews Mayweather fight push

Manny Pacquiao has used the start of 2015 to renew his calls for rival Floyd Mayweather to make an eagerly-awaited showdown happen.

Manny Pacquiao has again called out Floyd Mayweather Jr.

The 35-year-old Filipino and eight-division world champion immediately called out undefeated light middleweight champion Mayweather after retaining his WBO welterweight belt against Chris Algieri in November.

Mayweather subsequently responded by setting the date of 2nd May for the fight to finally happen, saying ‘I would love to fight Manny Pacquiao’, but no contract has been signed since and there are doubts emerging that it will take place on that date.

Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum has muddied the waters by revealing that he wants to set up a fight between Miguel Cotto and Canelo Alvarez on 2nd May and he would like to push a Mayweather-Pacquiao head-to-head back to June.

However Pacquaio used his Twitter page on New Year’s Eve to remind Mayweather that he is still waiting for his signature to set the fight ins stone.

He wrote: “?@MannyPacquiao. The ball will drop at midnight to usher in 2015. @FloydMayweather let’s not drop the ball on fighting each other next year! #LetsMakeFistory.”

Meanwhile Carl Frampton will face American Chris Avalos in Belfast on 28th February as he makes the first defence of his IBF world super-bantamweight title. The Northern Irishman is 1.12 to win and Avalos is 6.00.
