Oregon escapes upset attempt

Still undefeated, but only just, the Oregon Ducks move on to Boulder to play the Colorado Buffaloes after an upset scare in Salt Lake City.

Jordan Loveridge led the Utah Utes with 21 points and Dallin Bachynski came off the bench for a double-double as Utah pushed the Ducks into overtime before losing 70-68 at the Jon. M Huntsman Center. Mike Moser grabbed 11 rebounds in 32 minutes of work, but the former UNLV star, who transferred over the summer, was a woeful 1-of-8 from the floor and scored just three points on the night as Oregon by all rights probably should have lost.

Up next are the Buffaloes of Colorado who are 11-2 following their victory over Oregon State on Thursday. Colorado already owns a win over then sixth ranked Kansas and both defeats were to ranked sides in Baylor and Oklahoma State. As such the Buffaloes should be a tough task for the Ducks.

In their first game in the new Big East No. 11 Villanova bounced back nicely from their defeat to Syracuse last week with a 76-73 triumph over Butler.

The Wildcats, who host Providence over the weekend, went into overtime at the Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, IN before emerging with a 76-73 win. JayVaughn Pinkston paced the visitors with 22 points on 8-of-16 from the floor as the Wildcats hit 50% against the Bulldogs.

With most sides tipping off their conference schedules the Florida Gators are an exception when they entertain the Richmond Spiders at the Stephen O’Connell Center in Gainesville on Saturday. Ranked 12th in the nation, one place behind the Wildcats, Florida hosts South Carolina in SEC play next week.

Oregon are 51.00 to win the NCAAB Championship, while Florida can be backed at 26.00.
