Oregon and Ohio State win through

The Oregon Ducks and the Ohio State Buckeyes will meet for the national championship after the teams knocked off the Florida State Seminoles and Alabama Crimson Tide respectively on Thursday.

There was more than one school of thought that suggested that even unbeaten and as the defending national champion that Florida State did not belong in the college football play-off and that TCU would have been more worthy.

That certainly seemed the case on New Year’s Day as the Oregon Ducks routed the Seminoles in the national semi-final game at the Rose Bowl.

Heisman Trophy winner quarterback Marcus Mariota got the better of his predecessor fellow signal caller Jameis Winston in the 59-20 hammering that handed the Florida State QB his first collegiate loss.

Mariota completed 26-of-36 through the air for 338 yards and a couple of touchdowns along with a further 62-yards on the ground. Indeed the Ducks ground game worked well all day with Oregon amassing 301 yards on 45 carries led by Thomas Tyner’s 124 yards and two scores.

The Ducks now move onto to face Ohio State at AT & T Stadium in Arlington on the 12th of January.

The Buckeyes showed horrific clock management in the final minutes of the game, but still ended up 42-35 winners over Alabama in an exciting Sugar Bowl.

Ezekiel Elliott’s 85-yard fourth quarter run capped a 230 yard performance by the sophomore running back as the Big Ten champions sent their SEC counterparts packing back to Tuscaloosa.

Meanwhile, the Seattle Seahawks are 3.20 to win Super Bowl XLIX, with the New England Patriots 3.75 and the Green Bay Packers 6.50.
