Newcastle out for revenge – Krul

January 17, 2015 09:08:37 UK

Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul feels the Toon owe the fans a good performance against Southampton after back-to-back hammerings by the Saints.

The Magpies welcome Ronald Koeman’s men to St James’ Park on Saturday having been stuffed 4-0 on their last two trips to the south coast.

The most recent defeat in September promoted an angry response from the Newcastle faithful, who called for then-manager Alan Pardew to be sacked.

Caretaker boss John Carver will be in the dugout this time looking to pick up three points for the first time since Pardew left the club to join Crystal Palace.

Carver is desperate for the win to enhance his chances of getting the Newcastle manager’s job on a permanent basis and Krul is eager to help the 50-year-old’s cause.

The Dutch goalkeeper, who made his return from injury against Chelsea last time out, says the recent heavy defeats to Southampton will be on the minds of the players when they line-up for Saturday’s game and will spurs them on.

“We have something to put right,” said Krul.

“After what happened at Southampton we have to.

“I have been training hard to get back to full fitness on a personal note.

“But the team looks well to me. If we put our chances away on the night we will be fine.”

The Saints, who are 2.50 to finish in the top four, head to the north-east on the back of a seven match unbeaten run, which includes wins over Manchester United and Arsenal.

Southampton are 2.40 to pick up all three points on Tyneside, with Newcastle 3.25 and the draw 3.30.
