Murphy edges high-quality clash

January 17, 2015 12:29:14 UK

Shaun Murphy is expecting a tough Masters semi-final against Mark Allen after edging past Stephen Maguire in a tight last-eight clash.

Murphy hit back from 2-0 down to eventually win the quarter-final 6-4 as he reached the last-four for the fourth year in a row.

The match was locked at 4-4 until Murphy turned on the style, making a break of 103 in the ninth frame and then dominating the next with three scoring visits to the table.

The only player who seems to win easily here is O’Sullivan, he sails through matches.

Murphy, who won four tournaments last year, said: “It was a very high-quality match, as I expected playing someone of Stephen’s class. We’ve been playing those kind of matches since we were juniors.

“Every match here could be a final and it will be tough against Mark Allen. The only player who seems to win easily here is O’Sullivan, he sails through matches. Everyone else is playing people on a similar level.”

O’Sullivan plays Neil Robertson in the other semi-final. Murphy is 5.50 to win the Masters outright, while O’Sullivan can be backed at 1.80, Robertson at 4.00 and Allen at 8.50.
