McMullen secures milestone win

December 30, 2014 12:26:51 UK

Queensland reinsman Pete McMullen has driven his way into the history books today after becoming the youngest person in Australia to notch 1000 winners.

Amanda Turnbull claimed her 1000th winner at Peak Hill back in June aboard Forever Texas at the age of 24 years and 4 months, but McMullen is 23 years, 4 months, and 18 days old.

McMullen was hopeful of setting the record last Saturday night but the meeting was abandoned owing to some wild storm weather leaving McMullen posted on 998 winners.

This is unbelievable, a wonderful feeling and a record I’m very proud of because this country has produced some outstanding drivers.

However he was always going to break the record and it came at Albion Park aboard Ezi Days in the Sports Today on 4BC Open Pace in a time of 1;53.6.

“This is unbelievable, a wonderful feeling and a record I’m very proud of because this country has produced some outstanding drivers,” he said.

“It’s great to be in that bracket of elite drivers. There are so many people I want to thank but most of all my parents (John & Jennette), my Grandfather (John C.) and my wife Chantal, your support has been amazing.”

Racing Queensland Harness Chairman Greg Mitchell, currently on annual leave in North America, was thrilled to learn of the news.

“That is an outstanding moment for a fine young man and his immediate family,” he said.

“Pete is very dedicated at his craft and deserves every success he achieves in this wonderful sport; it’s a record to be very proud of and one that the entire state of Queensland can embrace with him.”
