Martinez waits on injured quartet

Roberto Martinez is unsure whether Gareth Barry, James McCarthy, Leighton Baines or Darron Gibson will be fit enough to play for Everton against West Ham on Saturday.

Barry and McCarthy suffered ankle and hamstring problems respectively against Sunderland earlier this month while Baines was forced to pull out of the England squad last week and Gibson complained of a sore knee after the Republic of Ireland’s 1-0 defeat to Scotland on Friday.

Martinez said: “Gareth has got incredible experience and he knows his body really well. When you have to be stretchered off in a football game you know it is something seriously wrong.

“James was desperate to be involved with his national team but he couldn’t make it and when you see Leighton Baines pull out of a training session you know that something is wrong but at the moment he is responding well to treatment.

“Darron Gibson played against Scotland and got a bit of soreness in his knee. He had a year-long lay-off with his ligaments, so we need to be cautious.”

If Baines is unable to play against the Hammers, Tyias Browning or Luke Garbutt could be handed make their first Premier League start on Saturday.

Everton are at 2.87 to finish in the top six and 1.14 to secure a place in the top half of the Premier League table this season. They are also available at 9.00 to beat West Ham 1-0 on Saturday.
