Martinez seeks a change of mindset

Everton boss Roberto Martinez is hoping a change of scenery might help his players regain some much-needed confidence, following a goalless draw with West Brom.

The Toffees are only four points clear of the relegation places after being held at Goodison Park by the Baggies, with Martinez having the extra worries of both Kevin Mirallas and Muhamed Besic going off injured.

We need to make sure we get back to our confident mood because we need that to win football games.

And, with his side now having gone six games without a win in the league, Martinez is hoping that time away at a training camp in warmer climes will help lift the mood around the Toffees camp.

Having seen Mirallas miss a crucial penalty against Albion and with his side enjoying a break as they are already out of the FA Cup, Martinez told the club’s official website: “We need to change the mindset and we need to get away as we are going to this week.

“We are going to take this opportunity to have some warm weather training and reset ourselves to get ready for the second half of the season.

“We need to make sure we get back to our confident mood because we need that to win football games.”

Everton can now be backed atĀ 29.00 to be relegated, with West BromĀ 5.50 and Hull City 2.37, but Martinez at least saw some positives from a clean sheet on Monday evening.

The Spaniard added: “The defensive display throughout the game was full of concentration and the only disappointment I have was in the second half when we couldn’t show that confidence, that little bit of magic, that little bit of quality.”
