Martin Guptill hit his first Test century for four years as New Zealand passed 400 runs on day one of the first Test against Sri Lanka.

The opener made 156 and put on 173 with Kane Williamson and 89 with Brendon McCullum – the captain making 75 of those – as his side took the upper hand.
