Louisville as yet untested

November 20, 2014 18:24:00 UK

The Louisville Cardinals will go in search of a third consecutive victory to open the season on Friday when they welcome in the Thundering Herd of Marshall to the KFC Yum! Center.

Minnesota and Jacksonville State have so far provided little opposition for the seventh ranked Cardinals who are essentially marking time until an early December match up with Ohio State.

The Buckeyes should be a better bellwether for Rick Pitino and the Cardinals as they ultimately point to an end of calendar year game against top ranked Kentucky before embarking on their ACC schedule.

Florida currently sits one place below Louisville in eighth place, but the Gators will take a tumble in next week’s poll following their upset loss to Miami earlier in the week.

Angel Rodriguez hit 5-of-8 from long range including a final 3-pointer with 18 seconds to go that turned out to be the winner as the Hurricanes stunned their hosts at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center in Gainesville.

Florida will host UL-Monroe on Friday before heading to Nassau in the Bahamas for the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament.

Wisconsin, UAB, Georgetown who the Gators play first, UCLA, Oklahoma, Butler and North Carolina make up a star studded field that should lead to some fascinating early season match ups, not least should Florida and Wisconsin each move forward to the semi-finals.

With Kansas, Wake Forest, Florida State and Connecticut all on the non-Conference schedule, head coach Billy Donovan is certainly challenging his side before the Gators open SEC play in the New Year.

Meanwhile, the Cleveland Cavaliers are 4.33 to win the NBA Championship, with the Chicago Bulls 7.50 and the Houston Rockets 15.00.
