Lewis eyes Trotters Cup win

Champion reinsman Chris Lewis will go in search of his first West Australian Trotters Cup at Gloucester Park on Friday night.

The $30,000 race is one of the few feature events in WA to have eluded him, but he will get a chance to put that right tomorrow night.

Lewis hopes of a win are been boosted by the fact he will handle Earl Or Nothing, who has been in fine form since arriving in the state.

The Queensland-bred eight-year-old was a winner of ten races in Victoria and has impressed in his first season of racing in Western Australia.

The Ross Olivieri-trained Earl Or Nothing has won six out of ten starts, two seconds, a fourth and a sixth.

That sixth came at his most recent appearance when he started from 40m and was a shade disappointing in finishing, more than five lengths behind the impressive winner, Don Guerrero, over 2631m at Pinjarra on Monday of last week.

However, Earl Or Nothing showed his class at his previous outing when he started from the front in a 2503m stand at Gloucester Park and set a solid pace before winning by four lengths from Enjoy A Coldie and Outmuscle.

As for Lewis, he has figured in the finish in four of the nine WA Trotters Cups, but has yet to win, something he hopes to rectify on Friday night.
