Leonardo Ulloa hands Leicester FA Cup victory over Newcastle

A much-disliked manager may have departed, but otherwise it was a case of plus ca change, plus c’est la meme chose as far as Newcastle United’s miserably furious supporters are concerned. The odds on caretaker John Carver taking over as United’s new head coach will surely lengthen after this result, though given club owner Mike Ashley’s famous lack of interest in the Cup competitions, no doubt Alan Pardew’s former assistant remains in the running.

The final few minutes saw the King Power Stadium resound to angry chants from getting on for 4,400 travelling fans, all inviting Ashley, in no uncertain terms, to “get out of our club”. As a matter of fact, there will be many among those supporters who will maintain the odds on Carver getting the job should actually shorten, because having spent much of his pre-match press conference emphasising how much value he attached to progress in the FA Cup, Pardew’s former assistant left several of United’s best players this season out of his starting line-up. The official line was that the likes of Daryl Janmaat, Jack Colback, Moussa Sissoko and Fabricio Coloccini were all carrying minor niggles, but the reaction on social media was less than impressed.
