Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez named 2016 African player of the year

• Leicester and Algeria winger caps dream year after winning Premier League

Riyad Mahrez has capped the most successful period of his career by winning the 2016 African player of the year award.

The winger scored 17 Premier League goals as Leicester won the title under Claudio Ranieri, with the Algerian’s exploits earning him the PFA players’ player of the year award in April 2016.
