Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson is likely to be without midfielders Dean Hammond and Danny Drinkwater for the FA Cup third round visit of Newcastle.

Hammond has a calf problem while Drinkwater came off against Liverpool on 1 January with a groin injury.

Newcastle will definitely be without Steven Taylor for the all-Premier League tie.

The defender has suffered Achilles tendon injury which may rule him out for the rest of the season.

Leicester are bottom of the Premier League table, four points from safety despite taking four points from the last two games.

And although Pearson admits staying in the top flight is his main priority, he is keen for an FA Cup run.

"I have no qualms in saying the Premier League is the most important thing," said the Foxes boss.

"But I think it would be great to get another win.

"It's come quickly, so inevitably there's going to be some changes - it's going to test our ability to recover and put in another very good performance."

Newcastle have not won the FA Cup since 1955.

John Carver and Steve Stone will take charge again, after Alan Pardew's appointment as Crystal Palace's new manager was confirmed on Saturday morning.
