Middlesbrough head coach Aitor Karanka says that there is more to come from Patrick Bamford, who has extended his loan stay until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old Chelsea starlet has scored seven times in 18 Championship appearances since his arrival on Teesside and Karanka is expecting an even better return in the second half of the season.

He understands the team is the main thing and he wants to be a part of it.

He told the club’s official website: “He loves to be here, we love him here, the squad wants him here and the crowd loves him. He’s a very good player.

“He’s a young lad, he has to improve and he has to learn, but he understands the team is the main thing and he wants to be a part of it.”

Boro are currently fourth in the Championship table and areĀ 2.00 to be promoted this season, while they areĀ 5.00 to win the Championship title.

Meanwhile, Karanka is excited about the prospects for his team in the coming months, telling the Northern Echo: “The team is improving every single day. We started building a team in January and in December this team is very strong.

“I am optimistic thinking about the future. My feelings about this year are very, very good.”
