Joys A Babe targets Albion Park joy

January 06, 2014 18:15:19 UK

Grant Dixon’s talented filly Joys A Babe, a winner at four consecutive starts in her last campaign, will race first-up after a spell at Brisbane track Albion Park on Tuesday.

The three-year, to contest a 1660-metre pace, has not started since running a close second at Albion Park on 20th July.

Joys A Babe, also a runner-up at the Gold Coast one week earlier, has been in the places at seven of eight starts.

She scored three wins at the Gold Coast and one at Albion Park between last 10th May and 22nd June.

The filly appears to be one of the most promising youngsters in Queensland trainer-reinsman Dixon’s strong team.

Spicy Stride, trained by Belinda McCarthy, will pursue her sixth consecutive win when contesting a 1660-metre pace at Menangle in Sydney on Tuesday.

McCarthy’s husband Luke retains the drive behind three-year-old Spicy Stride, who led and won by 31 metres in a Bathurst 2130-metre event on 26th December. The filly was having her first race for six months.

She won at Menangle three times and Newcastle once in the last four starts before she was spelled.

Belinda and Luke McCarthy will also team with Mahogany Stride when he competes in the first heat of a three-year-old pace over 1000 metres at Menangle on Tuesday.

The gelding was having only his third start when he led and won by 19 metres in a Penrith 2125-metre event on 27th December.

Three Over Three will be striving for his 11th win of a 22-start career when he tackles the Farms Pace (1609m) at Menangle on Tuesday.

The five-year-old, trained by Paul Fitzpatrick, has won at Menangle (six times), Bathurst (two), Bankstown and Melton.

Fitzpatrick’s son, Gavin, retains the drive behind Three Over Three, who was having his first start for five weeks when fourth over 1609 metres at Menangle on 24th December.
