Jordan Rhodes heads 10-man Blackburn to FA Cup third-round win at Newport

Jordan Rhodes once again proved his worth to any team interested in buying him during the January window as he pulled Blackburn Rovers out of the mire and earned them a fourth-round trip to Oxford United. The Scottish international underlined his striking talents with a 75th minute goal, his arrival as a substitute changing the face of a game that had threatened to run away from Rovers, who were forced to play for 80 minutes with 10 men after Chris Brown was sent-off.

When the game was due to be played nine days earlier the Rodney Parade pitch was under water and the ground staff came in for some fierce criticism from the then manager John Sheridan. In the interim, Sheridan moved to Oldham, a protective dome was put over the pitch and, even though it was the third match in four days, it was able to go ahead.
