Jimmy Anderson looks poised to be included in the squad for the second Test against Pakistan, starting on Friday at Old Trafford, after getting through his allotted two days of county cricket for Lancashire unscathed.

James Whitaker, who chairs the England selection panel, was in Southport throughout the bowler’s extended fitness test, although he may have experienced a mild twinge of unease watching Anderson in action while the wickets were tumbling at Lord’s.
