Former A-League player of the year Marcos Flores is on the move again, after being granted a release by Newcastle Jets.

The 29-year-old has made a speciality out of shorts stints with clubs, the 31 games he played for Adelaide United in his one season with the Reds in 2010/11 being the most appearances he has made for one club.

He has only played six times for Newcastle since joining the Jets in pre-season, but sought a release in order to sign for an overseas club.

The Argentine playmaker is reportedly heading to North American Soccer League side Jacksonville Armada to sign a long-term deal.

Flores was released March by Central Coast Mariners after a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his knee had put him out for the rest of the season.

He said he would remain grateful to the Jets, who are 4/1 to finish in the top six, for believing in him during what had been the most difficult time of his career.

“I have nothing but love and respect for the club, fans and staff and I will never forget the opportunity Newcastle Jets gave me,” said Flores. “I want to thank every member and supporter at the Newcastle Jets that showed faith in me and this is something I will always have in my heart.”

Jets coach Phil Stubbins said: “Marcos has worked hard to get himself fit and back in contention for the first team, but the offer he has received from overseas gives him security so in the best interests of the player we have decided to grant this release. Marcos is a passionate and proud footballer and everyone at the club wishes him all the success in his next move.”

Flores, who won the Johnny Warren Medal with Adelaide in 2010/11, turned down a three-year deal with United at the end of that season to move to Chinese Super League club Henan Jianye.

He was released after just one year of his three-year contract, and was let go halfway through his two-year deal by Melbourne Victory in 2013.

Newcastle Jets areĀ 7.00 to win their next A-League game against Adelaide United, who areĀ 1.44 to triumph, with the draw 4.33.
