Jenkins plays down Bony bid talk

Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins says his club have yet to field any enquiries for star striker Wilfried Bony, despite rumours of interest.

The 26-year-old frontman scored more Premier League goals than any other player in 2014 (20) and has been mentioned as a possible January target for the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool.

There has been no enquiry to me or the club about Wilfried Bony.

However, with Bony set to jet out to the African Cup of Nations with the Ivory Coast, Jenkins says a deal for the former Vitesse Arnhem ace is not on the agenda at the moment.

He told the Daily Mail: “There has been no enquiry to me or the club about Wilfried Bony.

“We are in the same position as any other club, things are as they are. No-one wants to lose players and if you are to lose players it has to be for the right offer.

“Bigger clubs than us have to deal with that – it’s the nature of football these days. We are realistic about that.

“It’s important to remember we are talking about a player who has scored more goals in 2014 than any other, including people who cost a lot of money.”

Bony and Swansea take on Queens Park Rangers on New Year’s Day, with City 2.50 to take all three points at Loftus Road, while the draw is 3.40 and a QPR victory can be backed at 3.00.
