Jayhawks conclude non-conference schedule

The Kansas Jayhawks wind up an impressive non-conference schedule on Sunday when they host the No. 21 Aztecs of San Diego State at the Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence.

Bill Self’s side is 9-3 in their first 12 outings of the season with an excellent neutral site victory over Duke and losses to Villanova, Colorado and Florida on their slate.

The Wildcats and Buffaloes were both unranked when they played Kansas, but their subsequent entry in the AP Top 25 shows the quality of opposition that the Jayhawks have scheduled; a decision that should ultimately benefit the side later in the year.

Last Monday Kansas handed Toledo their first setback of the campaign with a 93-83 victory. Perry Ellis led the way for the Jayhawks with 21 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the floor and Andrew Wiggins and Naadir Tharpe each added 20 in a well-rounded attack that shot over 56% on the night.

Kansas areĀ 1.19 to win the game, with San Diego State 5.00.

Wednesday Kansas travels to Norman to open Big 12 conference play against the Oklahoma Sooners with games against Kansas State, Iowa State, Oklahoma State and Baylor quickly following.

Connecticut currently are 17th in the nation, but that will not be the case in the new poll after the Huskies suffered defeats to Houston and SMU this week. It was not the start to American Conference play that UCONN would have anticipated after being something of a powerhouse in the old Big East.

Wednesday the Huskies will return to action at home when Harvard comes to town before returning to conference play next weekend against UCF.
