Kyle Okposo scored four goals against the Penguins.

The New York Islanders moved three points clear of the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday evening following their 6-3 victory over their Metropolitan Division rival at the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island.

Kyle Okposo scored four times to offset a Sidney Crosby double for the Pens as the Islanders made it three wins in four tries over Pittsburgh with one final regular season game between the two sides to come in April.

On Saturday the Islanders are in Montreal to play the Canadiens at the Bell Centre as New York go in search of a fifth consecutive victory to increase their advantage in the Division.

Meanwhile, over in Nashville, the Washington Capitals missed an opportunity to close the gap on the Penguins when they were beaten 4-3 by the Predators at the Bridgestone Arena. Down a goal early in the third period, the hosts rallied through Mattias Ekholm and James Neal, the latter unassisted for his 15th of the campaign after scoring earlier in the game.

Over in the Atlantic Division, the Tampa Bay Lightning return to the ice when the Colorado Avalanche are the visitors to the Amalie Arena. Winners over the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday, the Lightning lead the Canadiens and Red Wings by three points in the Division with Boston lurking a further three points back.

The Bruins have won five in a row to separate themselves from the Florida Panthers and they entertain the Columbus Blue Jackets at the TD Garden in Boston. Detroit on the other hand must face the Central Division-leading Predators who bring their own five-game winning streak to the Joe Louis Arena.

The Islanders are 3.80 to win the Metropolitan Division outright, with the Devils 251.00 and the Penguins 1.86.
