Ireland will gain further match practice as they build towards the 2015 World Cup with three 50-over contests against Sri Lanka A this summer.

William Porterfield’s team, who are currently at the World Twenty20 in Bangladesh, are already scheduled to face the full Sri Lanka team in early summer and they will follow that with the trio of contests against the Asian country’s second string in July. Dinesh Chandimal’s team will take on Ireland in a double-header at Clontarf on 6th and 8th May.

Stormont in Belfast then hosts the first two of the matches against Sri Lanka A, on 23rd and 25th July respectively, before the final one takes place at Coleraine on 27th July.

Our primary focus is, of course, the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand next year.

“These games will provide us with high-quality opposition and our international calendar is shaping up nicely,” said Ireland’s performance director Richard Holdsworth.

“Our primary focus is, of course, the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand next year, and these games will aid coach Phil Simmons as he and the team prepare for a huge 12 months for Irish cricket.

“The team is undergoing a few changes at the moment and more games of this calibre will make that transition so much smoother.”

Porterfield top-scored with 38 in Ireland’s WT20 warm-up win over Nepal on Tuesday with Surrey wicketkeeper Gary Wilson crashing an unbeaten 31 after Kevin O’Brien starred with the ball earlier in the day. The Irish begin their attempt to qualify for the tournament proper with an opening game against Zimbabwe next Monday.

Andrew Poynter is 13.00 to be Ireland’s top batsman at the T20 World Cup, while Porterfield can be backed at 4.33, O’Brien at 6.50 and Ed Joyce at 4.50.
