Injured Bryant out for the year

Kobe Bryant’s injury plagued campaign came to its logical conclusion on Wednesday with the news that the Los Angeles Lakers All-Star guard will miss the remainder of the season.

Bryant also had pointed remarks about the team ownership and head coach Mike D’Antoni which are likely to have ramifications over the summer as the Lakers look to rebuild their side.

On the court it has been a miserable year for the once proud franchise that sits next to last in the Western Conference, a half-game ahead of the Utah Jazz.

On Sunday, LA pulled something of a shocker with a 114-110 victory over the visiting Oklahoma City Thunder at the Staples Center when Jodie Meeks went off for 42 points. On Thursday the two sides complete their four-game regular season series at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City before the Lakers continue on to San Antonio on Friday.

On Wednesday, the other LA side, the Clippers, increased their winning streak to nine games with a 111-98 defeat of the visiting Golden State Warriors.

The two sides, who shape up as first round opponents in the post-season, have split their regular season series with each team winning two games on their home floor.

Blake Griffin, DeAndre Jordan and Chris Paul all had double-doubles for the Clippers, 10.00 to win the NBA Championship outright, who now hit the road for a brief one-game visit to Salt Lake City to play the Utah Jazz on Friday before returning home to host the Cleveland Cavaliers over the weekend.
