Horse Racing – Smullen predicts open Derby

Pat Smullen thinks the John Gosden-trained Khalidi has every chance of winning this weekend's Derby at Epsom. Smullen piloted Harzand to glory 12 months ago and is keen to win the Classic for the second year in a row. Khalidi, 25/1 with bet365 to win the Derby, claimed the Cocked Hat Stakes at Goodwood recently, and Smullen said: "He broke the track record in that race. The Derby looks very open this year. It's about whatever steps up on the day. "It will be a big field and a hassle-free run through the race will be a big help." Meanwhile, Aidan O'Brien bids for a sixth Derby victory on Cliffs Of Moher, who can be backed at 4/1.
