Horse Racing – Gosden rates Cracksman chances

Trainer John Gosden is upbeat about the prospects for Cracksman in the Qipco Champion Stakes at Ascot on British Champions Day. The colt is dropping back in trip to a mile and a quarter for just the second time as a three-year-old and Gosden feeld it is a challenge he's ready for. Cracksman is 3/1 with bet365 to win the Champion Stakes and Gosden is upbeat on his hopes, despite the likely presence of proven opposition in Ulysses, Barney Roy and Brametot in the field. Gosden feels a year of contending over a mile and a half in quality fields has helped develop Cracksman, though he also believes the horse is still maturing. "He's still maturing and strengthening," he said. "There are a couple of factors I'll watch - the draw is important and so is the pace. "He's won over a mile and a quarter and is bred to be more of a miler. I think he's got the pace for it."
