Ahead of the their FA Cup third round clash with Everton, West Ham have wrapped up the signing of Canada defender Doneil Henry from Apollon Limassol.

The 21-year-old centre-half has joined for an undisclosed fee, with Hammers boss Sam Allardyce having been alerted to the player by his former Blackburn Rovers skipper, Ryan Nelsen.

He said this lad definitely has Premier League potential and he has everything he needs.

And Allardyce is hopeful that Henry will be able to make an immediate impact, although he accepts that the youngster may need a little time to find his feet in English football.

He told his club’s official website: “Ryan was my captain at Blackburn for a couple of years and he rang us and told us about Doneil. He said this lad definitely has Premier League potential and he has everything he needs.

With a little coaching from us and work in terms of how to defend in the Premier League, Ryan says he has all the attributes to be a good player.

“We have invested in him for the near future, so we do hope he can make some sort of appearance this season if he settles in and does as well. If not, we hope he is certainly one for the future.”

Allardyce is currently preparing his side for a trip to Goodison Park on Tuesday evening, with the visitors hoping to extend the misery of a Toffees outfit who lost all four of their Premier League games over the festive period.

The Hammers can be backed at 3.80 to win the game in 90 minutes and are 13.00 to triumph by a 1-0 scoreline, with West Ham 34.00 to lift the FA Cup this season.
