Grizzlies routed by the Nuggets

No Zach Randolph equaled another loss for the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday as they fell 114-85 to the Nuggets at the Pepsi Center in Denver.

Without a strong inside presence the visitors were pushed around by the Nuggets, who gave extended minutes on the night to Jusuf Nurkic and J.J. Hickson, each of whom responded with 11 points and positive plus/minus ratings.

Ty Lawson led the way with 25 points on 10-of-14 from the floor and was ably supported by Arron Afflalo. Lawson and Kenneth Faried each posted double-doubles, as did Nurkic off the bench, as the host’s shot 52% from the field to take advantage of the under manned and tired Grizzlies.

Meanwhile the Houston Rockets moved to within a game of Memphis in the Southwest Division with an equally one-sided defeat of the visiting Miami Heat at the Toyota Center.

James Harden and Dwight Howard combined for 53 points for the Rockets who bounced back nicely from a poor performance against the New Orleans Pelicans.

Dallas has won four in a row and sits in between their Southwest Division rivals in the standings, a half game back of the Grizzlies.

Sunday the Mavericks play the early game when they travel to the Quicken Loan Arena in Cleveland to visit the Cavaliers.

LeBron James is out for at least two weeks with a growing suspicion that the two-time title winner hasn’t been right all season which has contributed to the slower than expected start in his return to Cleveland.

The San Antonio Spurs are 5.00 to win the NBA Championshio later in the year. The Cavaliers are 6.00 and the Bulls 6.00.
