Golf – Rose ready to play host

Ryder Cup hero Justin Rose will take on the role of tournament host with relish as the European Tour heads to Walton Heath for this week's British Masters. The event was relaunched in 2015 after disappearing from the schedule in 2008 and now moves venue each year with a different English golfer playing host. Ian Poulter got the gig at Woburn in 2015 and after Luke Donald at The Grove in 2016 and Lee Westwood at Close House in 2017, it's Rose's turn. The Englishman, 7/1 with bet365 to win the tournament, said: "It's a huge honour to host the British Masters and to follow in the footsteps of three friends of mine, Ian, Luke and Lee. "I've known for a while that I was next in line to host in 2018, so I've been watching carefully to see how the boys have done the hosting role. "This tournament has really created its own identify on the European Tour. The guys have left a pretty good blueprint for me. Hopefully I can put some of my own touches here and there and continue that success."
