Golf – Rose keen to complete the circle

Justin Rose has his sights set on trying to win the Open Championship at Royal Birkdale, the scene of his first breakthrough in the game. Rose, who is 18/1 with bet365 to lift the Claret Jug, finished tied fourth on his Open debut at the Southport course as a raw amateur back in 1998. And, having enjoyed a solid week at the Irish Open, Rose believes that his game is in good order to mount a challenge for a second career Major. He said: "There's a lot specific to links golf that I practised this week (in Ireland). "Figuring out how the ball comes out of the rough, learning to play the flyer, making a couple of bump-and-runs, and other stuff that will stand me in good stead for Birkdale. "It's the course where I kind of sprang to fame I suppose. It would be nice to come full circle and wrap up the Open Championship there."
