Golf – Rahm confident of Open success

Jon Rahm claims his six-shot win at the Irish Open has given him belief that he can win the Open Championship at Royal Birkdale later this month. The 22-year-old Spaniard hit a final round 65 at Portstewart Golf Club on Sunday to finish with a tournament record low score of 24-under-par as Scotland's Richie Ramsey and Englishman Matthew Southgate were six shots further back in joint-second. Rahm's round included two eagles, five birdies and two bogeys and he is now looking forward to transferring his experience from Ireland to the Southport venue when the third major of the year gets under way on 20th July. He said: "I learned a lot about myself and it's a really, really special day. "It proves to me I can perform properly on a links golf course and that's what I've got to take to The Open. I know now that I have what it takes. Rahm is 14/1 with bet365 to win the Open Championship at Royal Birkdale.
