Golf – McIlroy hunts Abu Dhabi glory

Four-time runner-up Rory McIlroy is determined to try and end his wait for victory at the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship. The world number three, who can move above Jason Day with a top-two finish in the Middle East, has finished second or in a tie for second in four of the last five years. And the Northern Irishman, 7/2 with bet365 to triumph in Abu Dhabi, is eager to go one better this weekend and make up for narrow misses in 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2015. He told reporters ahead of teeing off in a high-quality three-ball alongside world number one Jordan Spieth and Rickie Fowler: "I've had four runners-up and I've been close a couple times. Hopefully I can change that this week. "I want to play well this week and if that means laying down a marker to someone or to the rest of the field, then that's great. But I just want to try to play my best and hopefully win this thing."
