Golf – Casey ready for Ryder Cup bid

Paul Casey has revealed his aim of playing in next year's Ryder Cup after confirming his return to the European Tour. The 40-year-old, who has been on the winning side in two of his three previous Ryder Cup appearances, has not featured against the United States since the 2008 defeat in Valhalla. Casey was not picked in 2010 and injury ruled him out of Medinah two years later, before he then opted to quit the European Tour to focus on his PGA Tour commitments. But after rediscovering his form and fitness to work his way back into the world's top 20, he is now returning to the European Tour with the aim to help boost English golf and be in captain Thomas Bjorn's team against the USA at Le Golf National in Paris next September, which Europe are 6/5 to win with bet365. Casey said: "I want to play another Ryder Cup. That's why I need to do this. But it's not just the Ryder Cup. "What excites me more is the role I can play supporting the young guys."
