Gold Coast Titans have recruited United States international Eddy Pettybourne after he was released by Wigan Warriors last month.

The Titans have signed the New Zealand-born 26-year-old on a one-year contract. Pettybourne played 91 games for South Sydney Rabbitohs at the start of his career, appearing in all three of their semi-finals in 2012 as they finished one game shy of the grand final.

He spent the 2013 season with Wests Tigers before signing a two-year contract with Wigan ahead of the 2014 Super League season. He played 18 games for the Warriors before the club granted him a release for personal reasons with a year still to go on his contract.

I know Wigan were very happy with his form last season.

Pettybourne, who played for the United States at the 2013 Rugby League World Cup, has played at prop, lock and second-row. He has been signed as a replacement for Paul Carter, who was sacked last month by the Titans, who areĀ 51.00 to win the grand final.

Gold Coast coach Neil Henry said: “He’s a hard-running back or front-rower who’s had a lot of experience at the top level and I know Wigan were very happy with his form last season.

“He was prominent in their run to the grand final and had proved himself at NRL level. He will be a valuable addition and we are very lucky to have a player of his stature to replace Paul.”

Pettybourne’s signing comes as the Titans, who areĀ 3.75 to finish in the top eight, prepare to open talks with captain elect Nate Myles over extending his contract beyond this year. The 29-year-old has indicated he is happy at the club ahead of the campaign.

Myles said: “It’s a different club with a whole different crew here, obviously the coaching staff and all that’s different, but it’s a good place at the moment and I’m really enjoying it.”
