Gestede to Hull link cools

Hull City are not expected to make a move for Blackburn’s Rudy Gestede despite their current injury problems.

Gestede had been linked with a big-money move to the KC Stadium this month, but Tigers boss Steve Bruce is believed to be anticipating a quiet January transfer window.

Bruce has missed out on Arsenal’s Yaya Sanogo and Toronto’s Jermain Defoe, who have chosen Crystal Palace and Sunderland respectively, while Nikica Jelavic and Abel Hernandez are both currently sidelined.

Jelavic will not play again this month after sustaining a recurrence of the knee ligament damage he suffered in October during Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at West Brom.

I’ve told the manager I want to play and need to leave as soon as possible.

It is hoped that the Croatian striker will be fit enough to feature in the Premier League clash at Manchester City on 7th February.

Hernandez, who also limped off at The Hawthorns, is expected to be out of action for a month with a groin problem.

Meanwhile, Yannick Sagbo is keen to leave the club after growing frustrated at his lack of first-team opportunities under Bruce, saying: “I’ve told the manager I want to play and need to leave as soon as possible. I hope Hull can make it easy for me to leave by releasing me.”

The Frenchman has made just two substitute appearances in the Premier League for Hull this season.

Hull, 2.62 to be relegated this season, are available at 5.50 to beat West Ham United at Upton Park this weekend.
