Gerrard targets one final hurrah

Steven Gerrard would love to help Liverpool land one more major trophy before he brings down the curtain on his illustrious Anfield career.

With the former England captain set to leave the Reds at the end of the season to head the MLS, Gerrard has admitted that he would like nothing more than to give the Liverpool fans one more taste of silverware.

From a selfish point of view, it’s always a trophy and it’s always medals for me.

He told his club’s official website: “There’s still a bit to go and I’d love nothing better than to walk around Wembley or a big stadium at the end of the season with a trophy for them (the fans).

“We’ve still got a chance of finishing in the top four (in the league) and that’s the most important thing for the club, for obvious reasons.

“But from a selfish point of view, it’s always a trophy and it’s always medals for me.”

Liverpool are in action in the third round of the FA Cup on Monday evening, when they face a tricky trip to League Two AFC Wimbledon.

The Reds can be backed at 1.25 to win the game in 90 minutes and are 6.50 to secure a 2-0 victory, with Gerrard available at 2.75 to score at any time.

Extra motivation for FA Cup success this season comes with the Wembley final scheduled for 30th May, the same date as Gerrard will celebrate his 35th birthday.
