Gerrard loan return a possibility

Liverpool have not ruled out the possibility of Steven Gerrard returning to Anfield on loan from Los Angeles Galaxy next year.

The 34-year-old former England international will leave the Reds this summer after agreeing to move to the USA, but chief executive Ian Ayre has hinted that Gerrard may be allowed to return to the club during the Major League Soccer off-season.

“I’ve said openly to Steven and his representatives, as have Brendan (Rodgers) and the owners, that we see Steven as part of the family,” Ayre told Liverpool radio station CityTalk.

“The fact that he’s leaving at the end of the season doesn’t mean it’s the last we’ll see of him at Liverpool.”

Asked if that could mean a return to Anfield on loan next January, Ayre replied: “It’s conceivable. It happens a lot in MLS, and it’s something we talked to Steven and his representatives about.

“You can’t have someone who has so much of the club’s DNA in them and just expect that it will go away.”

Gerrard has won ten major trophies in a distinguished career which has seen him be a Liverpool regular for 17 years. He has made almost 700 first-team appearances since joining the club’s youth system at the age of eight.

Liverpool, 7.50 to finish in the top four this season and 13.00 to clinch the Europa League, can be backed at 9.50 to beat Aston Villa 2-1 this weekend, with Gerrard available at 4.00 to score at any time against Paul Lambert’s side.
