Froch upbeat ahead of Groves rematch

Carl Froch feels he is “bigger, heavier and stronger” ahead of his rematch with George Groves.

Carl Froch claims he is in “the best shape” he’s ever been in ahead of his rematch with George Groves on Saturday.

Froch can be backed at 1.61 to win the fight by any method, while Groves is 2.30 to come out on top.

The 36-year-old secured a controversial ninth round stoppage over the Londoner in Manchester in November, and some pundits have suggested Froch was under prepared for their first meeting.

Froch has previously indicated he underestimated Groves in their first fight, but he insists he is in top condition ahead of their clash at Wembley next Saturday.

“I’m down to seven or eight per cent body fat,” Froch told Mirror Online.

“I’ve kept all my skeletal muscle. Usually I burn away a bit of my muscle tissue doing my long runs, but I’ve not had to do that this time because I’ve been so strict with my diet.

“It’s not diet, it’s nutrition. It’s an old cliché, isn’t it? ‘I’m in the best shape I’ve ever been in’. I’m not going to say it, but I’m in fantastic shape.

“He [nutritionist Mark Ellison] tells me what to take, what not to take, how much. I don’t usually do that.

“He’s been monitoring my body fat and weight. I’ve been following his plan and it’s worked a treat. I can’t remember when I’ve felt this good. Maybe before the [Lucian] Bute fight. But I came in a little bit light then.

“I’m bigger, heavier and stronger now, which is bad news for George Groves.”

Froch is 2.37 to secure a KO, TKO or Disqualification victory over Groves or 6.50 to win in rounds seven-nine.
