Franjic pondering A-League return

January 05, 2015 09:28:40 UK

Defender Ivan Franjic could be back in the A-League after playing for Australia at the Asian Cup.

Franjic left Brisbane Roar for Torpedo Moscow after winning the premiership and Grand Final under Mike Mulvey last season.

I haven’t spoken to any clubs. My agent will speak to clubs and see who can fit me into the salary cap.

The 27-year-old, who won three championships and two premierships with Brisbane, signed a three-year contract with the Russian Premier League club.

With the Russian league on a mid-winter break, though, Franjic is eyeing the possibility of a loan move back to Australia that could last until the end of the season.

Franjic is vying with Chris Herd of Aston Villa for the right-back berth in Ange Postecoglou’s Socceroos side at the Asian Cup.

He was the first-choice at the start of Australia’s World Cup campaign in Brazil only to suffer a hamstring strain in their opening clash with Chile and be ruled out of their other two games.

Franjic said there was a chance he could be loaned out after the Asian Cup, and described the A-League as “a very big option” for him.

He added: “Maybe come home for four months, re-energise, get my body right then next season when my body’s really good – here you’ve got great physios – then go back to Russia.

“I haven’t spoken to any clubs. My agent will speak to clubs and see who can fit me into the salary cap. They (Torpedo) rang me and want me back. I’ll speak to the coach.”

Franjic said he felt in good shape physically ahead of Australia’s opening Group A clash with Kuwait on Friday after having a good pre-season with Torpedo.

Australia areĀ 1.28 to beat Kuwait, who are 11.00, with the draw 5.00.
