Formula 1 – Vettel rates Ferrari chances

Ferrari, 9/2 with bet365 to provide the winning car at the European Grand Prix, are on a 'great path' to challenge for Formula 1 glory in the not too distant future according to four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel. Vettel was speaking after finishing in second place in the Canadian Grand Prix, where only a two-stop strategy prevented the German from claiming his first victory of the 2016 season. However, far from being downbeat at being beaten by the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton, Vettel was positive that his team are closing the gap to the all-dominant Silver Arrows outfit. He said: "I know this car is a big step up and I think we had a mixed-up start to the season, which was difficult because we were never really in the position to show what the car can deliver. "We had a great Saturday (this week) and great pace. Just look at the opening laps of the race. I was pulling away, pulling a gap to, maybe not so much to Lewis, but to all the cars behind. "It felt great and the car felt great all weekend. I'm happy with the progress the team is making. "The team is on a great path, things are improving and I think we are seeing results quicker than anyone else so far in the history of F1. I think we are on the right track."
