Formula 1 – Bottas dismisses pressure talk

Valtteri Bottas has said he feels "zero pressure" in his bid to ensure he deserves to keep his seat with Mercedes beyond the 2019 Formula 1 season. It was reported that the Silver Arrows were lining up possible replacements for the 29-year-old Finnish driver after he went through the 2018 season without a race win and finished fifth in the standings, well adrift of team-mate Lewis Hamilton who claimed his fifth world title. However, Bottas made a dream start to 2019 as he won the opening Australian Grand Prix before snatching second place behind Hamilton in Bahrain on Sunday to lead the embryonic Drivers Championship by a point after two races. And, when asked if the threat of losing his seat has been the key to his strong start, Bottas, who is 12/1 with bet365 to win the Drivers' Championship, said: "I can guarantee that this year I don't feel the pressure at all. "Really, zero pressure. For my seat, I would say it's normal that everyone aspires to have it - I did for myself. It's common to get to F1 and then want to have the best place possible."
