Ford cool over Bath position

December 28, 2014 11:12:17 UK

Bath head coach Mike Ford says his side will not get carried away by their lofty position in the Aviva Premiership standings.

A superb 31-14 win over Exeter Chiefs on Saturday strengthened Bath’s hold on a top-two spot, but Ford is well aware that there is much hard work ahead if his side are to secure a home tie in the end-of-season play-offs.

He told reporters: “We have got a really good squad at the moment.  We are in a good place, but we know how tough the Premiership is. We are not going to get carried away.

“The one thing we have been doing is getting better. We are either first or second tonight, but it doesn’t mean anything. We know it is going to be small margins right to the death.

“We don’t want to look too far ahead, but we are very happy where we are.”

Meanwhile, Chiefs boss Rob Baxter has called on his side to respond quickly to their comprehensive defeat, adding: “I’ve said to the lads if we had come here and won it wouldn’t have won us the Premiership, so we have got to make sure that coming here and losing doesn’t have too big of an effect on our season.

“It was a tough game against a team that is playing very well, and we’ve come up short, but it should not decide our season.”

Bath can be backed at 4.33 to win the Aviva Premiership Grand Final this season, with Exeter 26.00 and Saracens 3.00.
