Fell eager to find consistency

January 06, 2015 07:58:02 UK

Worcestershire batsman Tom Fell has set a personal challenge of being more consistent this year after his 2014 season fell away following two breakthrough hundreds.

The 21-year-old hit Division Two tons against both Leicestershire and Glamorgan during the Pears’ promotion season.

I think my overall stats for the season weren’t where I hoped they would be.

But he only mustered 533 for the full campaign at an average of just under 30 after a flat finish – he managed six scores of 10 or under in his final four County Championship appearances.

“It was obviously nice to get those two hundreds in the middle of the season,” said Fell. “But to be honest, if I look back on it, I think my overall stats for the season weren’t where I hoped they would be.

“Especially towards the end of the season, I tailed off a little bit, a few inconsistent scores for me.

“It is something to learn from last year going forward for next season, that you have to keep going and don’t let that foot come off the gas and see it right through to the end of the season.”

“It was good to get those, but you can’t settle for two good innings in a season. You’ve got to back it up with more scores and I don’t think I did that enough.

“I got a 70 at Derbyshire, but other than that it was a few low scores which ruined my average and perhaps didn’t reflect the way I felt for the whole of the season.”

Worcs are 34.00 to win the T20 Blast this summer, with Surrey 8.00 and Hampshire 7.00.
