Farrell enthused by fast starts

Owen Farrell has said Saracens’ fast starts to games are no secret and they will look to implement the same approach when they take on Toulouse on Sunday in Heineken Cup Pool 3.

The London-based outfit have continually set their stall out early on in matches and that was no different when they defeated Gloucester 29-8 last Saturday.

And fly-half Farrell believes that the preparation the team put in during the week helps in their ability to open games at a high intensity.

He said: “We work hard on what we do. If the opportunities present themselves because of the forwards working then it’s our job to take it. We’re always on the lookout.

“We always talk about throwing the first punch, coming out and making sure that we try and take it to the other team because we don’t want it to take 10 minutes to get into the game.

“We’re very much a process-driven team and we’re always onto the next job so, no matter what happens, we like to think that we can get back onto task.

“It’s what we talk about every day. Take last year where we played Racing Metro and they scored try after try, but we stuck to what we knew and clawed our way back into the game, and we ended up winning that.”

Sarries have been criticised for their lack of try-scoring in previous years but, having crossed the whitewash more than anyone else this season, Farrell says that they altered their attacking structure at the start of the campaign.

“We changed the way we attacked a bit,” he added. “The go-forward that we’re getting at the minute is working really well for us, we’re making dints so that we can exploit the space.”

Toulouse are priced 1.83 -5 in the¬†‘handicap with tie’¬†market and Saracens are quoted 2.00 +5.
