Falcons look for first win outside the Division

The Atlanta Falcons find themselves in control of their own destiny in the NFC South despite a 4-6 record and a winless record outside their Division.

Such are the peculiarities of the NFC South this season where the Falcons, New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers have generally been pretty terrible.

Atlanta has won two in a row since coming off their bye week getting the better of the Buccaneers in Tampa and the Panthers at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte last weekend.

Matt Ryan completed 31-of-45 for 268 yards and a touchdown in the 19-17 victory and the Falcons now return home to the Georgia Dome on Sunday for the visit of the Cleveland Browns.

Also 4-6 are the Saints who, after appearing to turn the corner with wins over the Green Bay Packers and the Panthers, have now lost consecutive games to the San Francisco 49ers and the Cincinnati Bengals.

Under normal circumstances New Orleans has a stretch run that would appear favorable with games on the road against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Chicago Bears and Buccaneers while the Baltimore Ravens, Panthers and Falcons visit the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

However normal has been the last thing the Saints have accomplished despite destroying the Packers when the two sides met.

Over in Carolina the play of quarterback Cam Newton has been such that questions have been raised as to whether the Panthers will negotiate an extension with the former first overall pick.

A less than elite QB is better than no QB, but the mega deal that seemed on offer after last season may no longer be available.

The Packers areĀ 5.00 to win Super Bowl XLIX, with the New England PatriotsĀ 5.50 and the Seattle Seahawks 15.00.
